Susie has written eight gardening books and her work is regularly featured in magazines and newspapers. For twenty-three years she ran Chesters Walled Garden in Northumberland, leaving to create a garden for her Northumbrian cottage which she uses as the basis for many of her articles including the Guardian’s Country Diary. Set in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it is a place in tune with the surrounding landscape, and Susie has evolved a distinctive, natural style of planting to suit. She is a member of the Garden Media Guild, the Outdoor Writers and Photographers Guild and is Assistant County Organiser for Northumberland’s National Garden Scheme. Her nature writings appear regularly in the Guardian and she writes about travel for a variety of magazines.
